Meet Midnight Mira
Her nickname says it all. We got the call at 10:30 PM—emergency intake needed for a starving, malnourished mama dog who had just given birth to seven puppies earlier that day. Our amazing volunteer jumped out of bed, threw on some clothes, and began setting up for this urgent arrival.
By midnight, Mira arrived. Skin-and-bones thin, she looked like a ghost of a dog—but somehow, she had miraculously brought seven healthy pups into the world. That’s why we call her Mira, short for Miracle.
We got to work right away: food, water, warmth, and around-the-clock feedings every 4 hours to help both her and her pups recover. Despite the exhaustion, Mira showed us how loving, trusting, and forgiving a dog can be. She quickly learned that she mattered, that she could finally rest, that love, warmth, food, and comfort were now hers to keep.
Today, Mira is about 18 months old and a healthy 45 pounds. She’s what we lovingly call a “genuine mystery mix”—maybe a bit of Australian Cattle Dog, Heeler, Beagle, Lab, Retriever… the best parts of every breed wrapped up in one extraordinary dog.
Her story didn’t stop with her own litter. Nine days after giving birth, we got another call—an orphaned, one-day-old pup needed a mom. We took a chance and brought him to Mira. She didn’t hesitate. She welcomed him, cleaned him, loved him, and raised him as one of her own.
Mira has a way of stealing hearts. Her whole body wiggles when she sees you. She snuggles into your neck with little whimpers of joy, just so grateful for her second chance at life.
She’s great with other dogs—she came from a home with 26 of them!—and does well with indoor cats too.
Mira is more than just a survivor. She’s a miracle wrapped in fur, a mama with a heart full of love, and a soul ready for her forever home.
